Designed for learning

I once had a mom say, " Oh bummer, they are just making cupcakes today?" I was happy to explain to her the hand muscles that are built and the coordination that is necessary to hold and manipulate a pastry tube.
There are some very simple recipes that you can make that have learning and technique naturally included in them. This curriculum is specifically written by chefs and teachers  together to maximize the fun while fractions, science, and cooking skills are taught. Each lesson teaches and reinforces ideas and skills that build upon each other until you put them together and become a great chef!

Pre-school class
It's amazing the things we can learn when we are little and we are allowed to do new things! A whisk is for breaking up lumps, ovens are hot, washing our hands helps keep germs away, following instructions, fine motor skills for manipulation , cutting skills, washing and cleaning our area as well as trying new foods.
One of the biggest benefit to cooking classes at this age is widening a picky pallet , another is preparation for a "school" like structure.
Join us, It will be the tastiest learning ever!

Home School Cooking Club
A group of mixed aged students that meet mid day for lessons on new foods, cooking tools, techniques and health lessons. Each class has math, science and reading involved to help support and enhance lessons that are already being taught at home.
*Meeting together with other kids and learning from a certified chef will become the highlight of their day. Please contact us with 6 -12 students in your home school group and we will be happy to set a schedule of classes.*

Cook time k-2nd grade
While we will learn the same recipes and techniques, new tools, and new foods as the older cook time class, we will go a bit slower, being sure the basics are learned and the manipulation of the tools are correct. We find a bit more of the taste pallet has been formed by 5 years old and takes a slower more gentle hand at introducing foods previously viewed as "icky".
At this age we are able to do many of the same things as older kids, just not with the same precision and speed, simply because of fine motor skill development. We will take our time and learn it well. Reading and direction following are a big focus in this age group as is cleaning our own messes.

Cook time (3rd -5th) and Cook time (6th & up)
Age gives us some advantages, our hands are bigger, our vocabulary is wider, and our experiences in the kitchen is more abundant. Even if we have never been taught any kitchen skills, all of this is true.  Learning basics in the class will be faster and more thorough.
We will be able to move on to  flavor combinations, proper seasonings, working with proteins, meal planning and preparation and understanding cultural foods and their origins.
Math and science, reading and direction following will be key in this age group as we focus in on a lot of independent cooking.
